Just soaring higher and higher

So today we had a therapy appointment. Kylie was still sleeping from her nap when her therapist came by, so it gave her therapist and I time to go over all the progress Kylie has made and all the goals we still have for her.

One thing I surely love about Kylie's therapist is that she always asks what we want to work on, because new experiences and just all sorts of things tend to change our goals as time goes on. Sometimes I feel like we are just running in circles, because one week I feel like sensory is a huge thing to work on, especially when Kylie can't handle eating things because she is too stressed. Then just a day or two later we can go somewhere and Kylie has a difficult time adjusting to where we are and the new experiences, so then I feel like we need to re-group and work on social situations.

Sorry, I got a bit derailed there...what's new, huh :)

So we did not have a chance to review the results from the last developmental tests that were done from the language study Kylie is in. Click
here for more info on that (language study) from a previous post. Even though we did not have the opportunity to go over the results, I did read over them and all I can say is WOW!

Just take a look yourself:

(Note: Kylie's results from 6 months ago are circled in green, and her results from just last week are circled in purple)

We were also given a chart that is based off of observations of Kylie's language while I play with her. Kylie's vocalizations and gestures have decreased, while her words have just made a HUGE jump! The best part of all is that Kylie has now entered into a new category Child Multiwords!

Our therapist did have a moment to show that to me, and she did note that Kylie is her only kid enrolled in this study that has scored in that category!

I really believe that Kylie is just more AMAZING as she gets older! She has just come so far, and knowing that things could have been much more difficult for her, just makes us see what a miracle she really is!

All things Kylie

So in the last few days we have had so many new things with Kylie. As always, it is a rollercoaster of events, but I will be sure to glorify all the highs as much as I can!

Busting Out

I think it was like 3 weeks ago or so when Kylie started really putting up a fight when it was naptime or bedtime. Then about a week or two into it, Matt put her down and she fussed, but it wasn't the screaming to get out performance we had been seeing. Of course we were like okay, maybe she is getting over this whole thing. Umm...as soon as we shared those thoughts, we heard a loud thud, followed up with a brief moment of silence, and then a scream.

Yep, she did it...she hoisted herself out of her crib. We both ran upstairs to find her crying and walking out of her room. She wasn't hurt, so that was Great. We still don't know how she landed, but after I read her a few books and talked to her about how only mommy and daddy can get her out of her crib, she nodded as if to say I know, because that didn't exactly work out for me and I won't be trying that again.

1, 2 Buckle My Shoe

Just the other day, Kylie counted to 6 all by herself, and when I followed up with 7, she finished it off and said 8, 9, 10!

Chatty Cathy

Kylie has started putting 2 words together and it is so great to hear a complete little thought come out of her mouth! She just understands so much, it is unbelievable!! We have to spell so many things, and I'm sure it is only a matter of time before we need to start talking in a different language to keep her from knowing what we are saying....I have a feeling that will be short-lived too.

Sick Baby

So this morning, Kylie woke up at 4am vomiting....ugghh, it was a first time for us to go through this with her and it was nothing I would like to see again. Poor thing was so upset and scared about what was happening, and it just kept happening. At first it was every 20 min, then 30, and 40. It was great when she just passed out on the couch with me and slept for a little over 1 1/2 hrs. Then we had two more episodes following her brief nap. I sure hope it is all done with, because she was so frightened by it, and it was a constant battle of calming her and distracting her from wanting to eat the things we were told we couldn't give her. She did great through it all, and was bouncing all around by late afternoon!

Chattering even MORE!

So I mentioned above about how awesome she is doing with talking and putting words together. Okay, so just today and maybe even yesterday too she has been putting like 3 and 4 words together! She is absolutely blowing us away with all of this sudden burst of language development! Her receptive language has always been astounding, and now she is flooding us with all that she has always gotten. Love it!

Being 2

Okay, so we know Kylie just turned two a couple weeks ago, and boy is she showing it :) Ha...I can smile about it now because she is asleep. Just in the last few days the toddler in her has fully surfaced and it is not the most enjoyable of times. As you can guess, her new favorite word is No, and she says it with lots of attitude. Oh, and she likes to repeat it over and over and over again...just to make sure we understand her :) She is screaming or yelling about just about anything, and only wants her dada to help her...the tantrums just intensify if I try. Oh joy!

So yes, I think that is all for now...all I can think of anyhow. I know I still need to post all the details of her party. I will do that sometime next week.

Hope all is well out there in the blog world...I have been out of it for a bit, but now you have a bit of insight as to why.

Buckeyes!

A quick little story...

I sent an email to the Ohio State Cheerleading program a couple of weeks ago with a picture of Kylie in her OSU cheerleading uniform. This is what I sent:

Good morning,

This is quite possibly the least important email you’ll get today. It also might be the most fun.

My name is Matt…I live in the suburbs of Kansas City with my wife, Jody, and our 23-month old daughter, Kylie. Jody is originally from NE Ohio, so she’s a Buckeye fan. We were in Ohio in late July to take Kylie to the Cleveland Clinic to see her neurologist (long, long story). While we were in Ohio we stayed with Jody’s parents...one day during our stay, Kylie’s grandpa decided to get her an OSU cheerleading uniform. We put her in it for the first time this weekend…and she absolutely loved it. Here’s a pic of her jumping on the couch.

I was hoping for, but not necessarily expecting, a response. I just thought it was a super-cute picture that I would share with the Buckeye's cheerleading program. Well, much to my surprise, I checked my email on Friday and had this waiting for me:

Hello Matt,

She is so cute – can you please send us your address – we would like to send Kylie some Buckeye stuff.

She is in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for sharing.

I looked her up and she is indeed the head coach of the Ohio State Spirit Program (aka Cheerleading). Seriously. How awesome is that!?

2 day!

Just wanted to wish a happy, happy birthday to our little girl! Amazing to think that it has been 2 years today, since our lives were forever changed.

We never knew how much thing would change once she arrived, and much she would have changed our hearts. She has taught us so much about ourselves, each other, and how we look at life.

I was planning to have a super sappy post, and fill it with all sorts of emotions, but all I can think of is pure love and joy for this truly Amazing little lady.

Two years ago today.

1 year ago today

2 yrs old!

One sweet little note is that we have been practicing with Kylie and asking her how old she is going to be. She will say two...sounds like "do," and she often holds up one finger. We are working on getting her to hold up one finger on each hand. It is super cute too!
